One of the best times of year to go fishing is during the fall salmon runs. Every fall starting in mid to late August, thousands of chinook salmon and coho salmon enter the rivers and streams of Lake Ontario to spawn, and Wilmot Creek is no exception. With the coming of cooler nights in September and fall rains, the salmon runs on Wilmot Creek peak with hundreds of fresh fish entering the creek daily. Anglers can enjoy fishing for these aggressive fish with light line and fly fishing gear. Salmon in the 20 lb plus range are not uncommon, with some brutes tipping the scales over 30 lbs. This is the time of year to truly catch a fish of a lifetime!
Bait and lures of choice include, castings spoons and small crankbaits in bright colours, as well as various river gear, such as float fishing with roe, worms and flies. Bright orange and pink flies can be deadly, especially early in the morning. Wooly bugger and streamer flies are also effective presentations when fished slowly in the deeper pools and around undercut banks and tree stumps. Landing a salmon in the river can be a challenge, especially with light river gear. Fall fishing in Wilmot Creek is not only the time to catch big salmon, but also steelhead trout and brown trout with enter the rivers and are eager to hit an anglers offering. Don’t miss this opportunty for some of the best fishing of the year. If you haven’t come out to fish Wilmot Creek during the fall salmon run, what are you waiting for? Give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

The club is my favourite place in the world… I could never thank the Wilmot Club enough for giving me the privilege to fish and unwind on your property and giving me memories of a lifetime!

The membership includes the spouse and all children under the age of 21. Along with the fine creek fishing, there is a 20 fish quota for taking fish from several of the stocked ponds on the property. To maintain the health of the stocked fish, please use Barbless hooks only in the ponds.
